William Shakespeare
The Plays : Comedies
Titania, Queen of the Fairies, with Bottom
In A Midsummer Night's Dream
14 of Shakespeare's 36 plays published in the First Folio of 1623 were classed as Comedies. Some, like The Tempest and The Winter's Tale, we might not think of as obvious comedies today, but in Shakespeare's time a play was considered a comedy if it was not a history or a tragedy! All Shakespeare's comedies have a happy ending, except Love's Labour's Lost, which was perhaps intended to have a sequel. Below, the plays are listed in the order they appeared in the First Folio.
THE TEMPEST
THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA
THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR
MEASURE FOR MEASURE
THE COMEDY OF ERRORS
MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING
LOVE'S LABOUR'S LOST
A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

THE TAMING OF THE SHREW
