Anne of Denmark
24. What happened to Queen Elizabeth's clothes after she died?
Queen Elizabeth's clothes, reputedly numbering over 3000 dresses, were given to Anne of Denmark, wife of King James VI of Scotland, who became King of England when Elizabeth died in the March of 1603. Not one of Elizabeth's gowns survives today, but a few items of clothing have survived the centuries, including her corset, boots, hat, gloves and Christening robe.
