28. Is it true that the real Queen Elizabeth died in childhood and was secretly replaced with a servant boy?
This story derives from a legend known as The Bisley Boy. It can be found in the book Bess by Constance Pratt and The Bisley Boy by Chris Hunt.
It is extremely unlikely to be true. In all likelihood, it's just another tale to explain why, when she could have had her pick of men, the Queen did not marry, and how, being a "mere woman", she was such a political genius.
